Overview

Understanding Tendon & Ligament Injuries

Tendon problems that last more than a few months are rarely inflammatory — the tissue itself has changed. That's why rest alone stops working. Treatment combines an orthobiologic placed exactly into the abnormal tissue with the loading program the tendon actually needs.

Common symptoms

  • Pain that returns every time you resume the activity
  • Localized tenderness over a tendon or its attachment
  • Morning stiffness that eases and then worsens with load
  • Weakness or reluctance to load the limb
  • Swelling around a specific tendon or ligament

Common Causes

  • Chronic tendinopathy — elbow, Achilles, patellar, gluteal, hamstring
  • Partial ligament tears from skiing, cycling, or lifting
  • Repetitive overload without adequate recovery
  • Incomplete rehab after an earlier injury
  • Sudden training or altitude-activity load increases

How we diagnose it

  • Palpation and load testing to localize the tissue
  • Diagnostic ultrasound of tendon structure and blood flow
  • Review of prior imaging and treatment history
  • Movement assessment for the pattern that caused it

What to Expect

  1. 01

    Tissue-level diagnosis

Ultrasound shows exactly which part of the tendon is abnormal.

  2. 02

    Precise orthobiologic

PRP or another orthobiologic placed into that tissue, not near it.

  3. 03

    Progressive loading

A written loading program — the part most tendon treatment leaves out.

  4. 04

    Re-scan

We reassess structure and function before clearing full return.

FAQs

Tendon & Ligament Injuries — Questions Patients Ask

Why hasn't rest fixed it?

Chronic tendon tissue doesn't remodel without load. Rest calms it; loading rebuilds it.

How long until I'm back to sport?

Tendon remodeling takes weeks to months. Most patients return progressively over six to twelve weeks depending on the tendon.

Is PRP better than cortisone for tendons?

For chronic tendinopathy, repeated cortisone can weaken tissue. Orthobiologics target repair instead.

Do you treat Achilles and hamstring problems?

Yes, along with elbow, patellar, and gluteal tendons — all under ultrasound guidance.
