Patient Guide
Why hasn't my injury healed after months of rest?
Chronic tendon and ligament tissue does not remodel without load — rest quiets it, loading rebuilds it.
The Short Answer
What This Pattern Usually Means
After roughly six weeks, most tendon problems are no longer inflammatory. The collagen has become disorganized and the tissue has structurally changed. Rest reduces the symptom because you stopped provoking it, but it does nothing to reorganize the tissue.
That is why pain returns predictably the moment you resume the activity. The tendon is not weaker because you moved; it is weaker because it deconditioned while you waited.
The plan that works is a tissue-level diagnosis with ultrasound, an orthobiologic placed into the abnormal portion of the tendon or ligament, and a written progressive loading program — the part that most treatment leaves out entirely.

The Diagnoses Behind This Symptom
Don't Wait
When To Be Seen Sooner
- Symptoms persisting beyond three months
- A tendon that is visibly thickened or has a palpable gap
- Repeated failure after multiple courses of rest
- Loss of strength in the limb
This guide is general education, not a diagnosis. For anything urgent — progressive weakness, or any change in bladder or bowel control — seek emergency care.
How We'd Approach It
One Physician, One Plan
- A hands-on exam that loads each candidate structure separately
- Independent review of your existing films, not just the report
- In-room ultrasound while you move, so tissue behavior is seen live
- A diagnostic guided block when more than one structure could be responsible
- Treatment matched to the confirmed source, not a set protocol
- A written loading program so relief becomes capacity
FAQs
Questions Patients Ask
Should I keep resting?
Not indefinitely. Load is modified, not eliminated, and it is progressed deliberately.
How long will it take?
Tendon remodeling is measured in weeks to months. Most patients progress back over six to twelve weeks depending on the tissue.
