What Piriformis Syndrome Actually Is
The piriformis sits deep in the buttock and lies immediately adjacent to the sciatic nerve. When it is irritated or in spasm it produces buttock pain and can refer down the leg in a pattern easily mistaken for a disc herniation. Ultrasound-guided treatment reaches it precisely, but the spine must be cleared first.
