Rotator Cuff Tears & Tendinopathy Treatment
Partial or full-thickness injury to the tendons that lift and rotate the arm.
Overview
What Rotator Cuff Tears & Tendinopathy Actually Is
The rotator cuff is four tendons that hold the ball of the shoulder centered while you move. Tendinopathy is disorganized, degenerated tendon tissue; a tear is a defect in the fibers. Partial tears frequently improve with a precisely placed orthobiologic and a correct loading program, while large full-thickness tears in the right patient deserve a surgical opinion — and we will say so plainly.
Also called: torn rotator cuff, cuff tendinitis
Symptoms patients describe
- Pain lifting the arm overhead or reaching behind the back
- Night pain, especially lying on that side
- Weakness carrying or lifting with the arm out from the body
- A painful arc of motion between roughly 60 and 120 degrees
Diagnosis
How It's Confirmed Here
- 01
Hands-on exam
Each structure is loaded separately so the source is narrowed before any imaging is ordered.
- 02
Imaging review
Your existing films are reviewed independently by Dr. Hyzy — not just the outside report.
- 03
In-room ultrasound
Dynamic imaging while you move, so tissue quality and behavior are seen live.
- 04
Diagnostic guided injection
When more than one structure could be responsible, a targeted block confirms which one is.

FAQs
Rotator Cuff Tears & Tendinopathy — Questions Patients Ask
Can a rotator cuff tear heal without surgery?
Partial tears often improve substantially with precise treatment and graded loading. Full-thickness retracted tears in an active patient are a different conversation, and we will tell you when a surgeon should weigh in.
Why ultrasound instead of another MRI?
Ultrasound shows the tendon moving in real time and guides the needle into the abnormal tissue. MRI answers deeper structural questions. They are complementary, not interchangeable.
