Shoulder Impingement Syndrome Treatment
Compression of the rotator cuff tendons as they pass beneath the acromion.
Overview
What Shoulder Impingement Syndrome Actually Is
Impingement is usually a movement problem as much as a structural one: when the shoulder blade does not rotate properly, the space above the cuff narrows and the tendon gets pinched. Treatment addresses both the irritated tissue and the scapular mechanics that keep reproducing it.
Also called: subacromial impingement
Symptoms patients describe
- Pain reaching overhead or out to the side
- Pain that eases when the arm hangs at rest
- Aching down the outside of the upper arm
- Discomfort reaching into a back seat or a back pocket
Diagnosis
How It's Confirmed Here
- 01
Hands-on exam
Each structure is loaded separately so the source is narrowed before any imaging is ordered.
- 02
Imaging review
Your existing films are reviewed independently by Dr. Hyzy — not just the outside report.
- 03
In-room ultrasound
Dynamic imaging while you move, so tissue quality and behavior are seen live.
- 04
Diagnostic guided injection
When more than one structure could be responsible, a targeted block confirms which one is.

FAQs
Shoulder Impingement Syndrome — Questions Patients Ask
Do I need surgery to make more space?
Rarely as a first step. Most impingement responds to calming the bursa and retraining scapular control.
