Overview

What Subacromial Bursitis Actually Is

The subacromial bursa is a thin sac that lets the cuff glide under the bone above it. When it becomes inflamed and thickened, ordinary movement becomes painful. A guided injection into the bursa is both diagnostic and therapeutic — if the pain leaves, we know the bursa was a real contributor.

Symptoms patients describe

  • Sharp pain with overhead movement
  • A deep ache that lingers after activity
  • Tenderness under the bony point of the shoulder
  • Pain that flares after a day of painting, lifting, or shoveling

Diagnosis

How It's Confirmed Here

  1. 01

    Hands-on exam

Each structure is loaded separately so the source is narrowed before any imaging is ordered.

  2. 02

    Imaging review

Your existing films are reviewed independently by Dr. Hyzy — not just the outside report.

  3. 03

    In-room ultrasound

Dynamic imaging while you move, so tissue quality and behavior are seen live.

  4. 04

    Diagnostic guided injection

When more than one structure could be responsible, a targeted block confirms which one is.

FAQs

Subacromial Bursitis — Questions Patients Ask

Is a blind cortisone shot enough?

Unguided shoulder injections miss the target more often than most patients realize. Ultrasound confirms placement inside the bursa itself.
